"A hugely popular variety which is easy to grow and full of flavour"
A large and leafy winter alternative to lettuce, it is easy to grow and very versatile, with a superb sweet flavour. Halve heads of chicory, steam or simmer briefly until tender, place in a baking dish, pour over a mix of cream, mustard and parsley, sprinkle with Gruyere cheese and grill.
For outdoor sowing:
From March to July, in a prepared seed bed in the growing position. Sow thinly in rows 25cm. apart. Cover with 1,5cm. of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks.
When large enough thin out to 20cm. apart. Keep moist and weed free.
